The Virtual Interior Design Process
Before we dig in let's answer the question: "What is "virtual interior design?"
Virtual design is a process by which you work with an interior designer (that's me!) over email, calls, and video chats to create an interior design plan for your home. This plan allows you to execute on the design at a pace that works for you to create a home that works for you. If you want expert guidance while maintaining control of the final results, then you've come to the right place!
Step 1: A Quick Intro Call
Once you fill out my contact form I'll reach out to schedule a quick 10-15 minute call to discuss the details of your project and next steps.
Step 2: The Intake Form
After our call I will send you my intake form which consists of a series of questions that will help me better understand your project goals, personal style, and how your family lives in your home so I can customize the design to best suit you.
Step 3: Your Custom Quote
Once you have completed the intake form I will write up a custom quote for your project. This will detail everything that's included and give you a flat fee. Unlike an estimate, this number won't change on you! There are no hidden costs or surprise invoices. What you see on your quote is what you get.
Step 4: Project Kick-Off
Once you approve the quote I'll send along an invoice and upon payment receipt (or the agreed upon timeline) work will begin. This is when the fun starts!
Step 5: Room Dimensions and Photos
If you haven't already provided them, this is where I'll ask you to send along the room dimensions and photos. Don't get anxious on me. I promise, it's really simple! I'll have you create a simple room diagram like the one below that shows the following dimensions:

-
Total room length and width
-
Distance from floor to ceiling
-
Width, height and distance from floor on all windows
-
Width and height of door and/or openings
-
Distance between windows and doorways

Detailed dimensions allow me to find pieces that maximize your space and are certain to fit properly once you get them home. That said, 99% of the time I'll catch any major discrepancies when I go to create your floor plan and in that case I'll have you double check them for me. Even so, I do always recommend you measure once more before making any purchases from the shopping list especially if something is going to be a tight fit.
Step 6: You Custom Style ID
If you've chosen to do a full room design then you'll receive your Custom Style ID. This one-page PDF will take all of the information you've provided and synthesize it down to the "nuts and bolts" of the design (AKA must-haves, color palette, defining adjectives, and inspiration images).

Step 7: Your Design Plan
Your design plan may look different depending on what we outlined in your project scope but for a full room design this is what you can expect:

-
1-2 floor plan options showing the size and placement of furniture pieces (if options are provided then we will select one before moving on the the other pieces below)
-
Concept board showing all the pieces that have been sourced for your room design
-
Click-to-buy shopping list containing all the details for each piece selected

Step 8: Feedback and Edits
When I send your design plan I will request that you share any feedback you have. After we've chatted about your thoughts I'll go back to the design and make any edits necessary. I always do my best to hit it out of the park on the first version but there is almost always some tweaks to be made and that's ok!
Step 9: Bringing Your Design to Life
Once you're happy with the design it's time to bring it to life in your home! Using the shopping list you'll order all of the pieces and refer back to the design plan to install and style your room. If you so wish, this is also an opportunity to tweak the design further by shopping for similar pieces second hand, watching the sales, or just adding your own twist. I love when clients execute exactly on my vision but I also love when you make it your own.
